The admiral in charge of the Navy’s regional maintenance centers presented awards to Sailors and civilians during an all-hands presentation while visiting Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility Everett Detachment in Everett, Washington, July 22.

Rear Adm. Tom Anderson, commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Centers and Naval Sea Systems Command deputy commander for ship maintenance and modernization (SEA 21) visited as part of a tour of the Northwest Regional Maintenance Center.

Making a priority of meeting Sailor and civilians during his first 90 days in command, Anderson met with senior leaders and toured facilities during his stay in the region. He took command May 31.

Anderson presented Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals to Navy Diver Chief David Lutz, Navy Diver Second Class Bryan Regan and Navy Diver Second Class Tyler Russel for their actions on May 30, when they recognized, rescued and administered life support for a civilian having a stroke while in the Naval Station Everett pool.

He also awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to Hull Maintenance Technician Second Class Christopher Yant for his accomplishments while a member of the weld shop.

Also during the ceremony, seven sailors received their Navy Afloat Maintenance Training Strategy certificates. NAMTS is a program established by the Chief of Naval Operations to improve battle group organic maintenance capability and material self-sufficiency.

Three civilians also received awards from Anderson for their efforts on workforce development and performance during multiple availabilities over the last quarter.

“The accomplishments of these folks are significant and important to recognize,” said Anderson during his all-hands address.

Anderson also stressed the importance of maintenance in today’s Navy during an all-hands presentation.

“Our fleet looks to you to ensure that our ships are ready to return to the fleet and that you will know how to fix them once you go back to sea,” said Anderson. “Your actions have shown that you are more than up for the task.”
