TSCHR Selects Junior Sailor of the Quarter

28 January 2019
TSCHR Selects Castro as JSOQ

Training Support Center Hampton Roads (TSCHR) named its Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ) during a presentation held at an all-hands call, Jan. 23, NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex.

Operations Specialist 2nd Class Cristina Castro from The Colony, Texas, was selected for her duties and responsibilities as TSCHR’s Assistant Command Career Counselor.   Castro was responsible for the Career Development Program, conducting 20 command and department career development boards, 15 reenlistments totaling 150,000 in selective reenlistment bonuses, and she played a major role in organizing six Coalition of Sailor’s Against Destructive Decisions events for over 300 staff and students.

“I was surprised to learn that I won,” said Castro. “The competition was tough, I felt like everyone deserved to win, we all work so hard for this command and give it our all.”

“Petty Officer Castro has a matchless working ethic which makes her a valuable asset to any command and the Navy.  She has a "can do" attitude that enhances capability to accomplish our mission here at Training Support Center Hampton Roads. She is destined to have a great career in the United States Navy,” said Senior Chief Navy Career Counselor Romeo Calicdan.

While Castro has only been at TSCHR for one year, this is her 2nd JSOQ award.

“I attribute this award to my daughter Sophie, she has inspired me to do the best I can in life. I also want to thank my coworkers for guiding me in all that I do.  TSCHR feels like a home away from home. We are all very close, and my coworkers are like family to me,” said Castro.
