FY19-20 Tours with Industry Applicants Sought

07 February 2019
Navy announced Feb. 7 that select Sailors can apply to participate in the Secretary of the Navy Tours with Industry (SNTWI) program.

Navy announced Feb. 7 that select Sailors can apply to participate in the Secretary of the Navy Tours with Industry (SNTWI) program.

Outlined in NAVADMIN 029/19, SNTWI is open to Active-duty and Full Time Support (FTS) Sailors in paygrades E-6 to O-6. Sailors must route applications through their detailer, and eligibility is based solely on individual community needs.

“The SNTWI program provides a venue for exceptional Sailors to experience innovative business practices for between 10 and 12-months,” said Lt. Christina Johns, SNTWI program coordinator. “Navy fellows are fully immersed in company practices and will be actively engaged in projects and company operations.”

Communities will submit the names of their selectees to the director of SNTWI (PERS-443) no later than Feb. 22. Final selection will be made by the Community Distribution Division and individual communities will notify those selected.

Applicants must be high performing and within physical standards of readiness. Additionally, applicants must be within three months of their projected rotation date by September 2019 to be eligible for participation. Sailors selected for this program incur a service obligation of three times the number of months they participate in the SNTWI program — 30-36 months.

“Past fellows were assigned to VM Ware, Qualcomm, Apple Inc., Boeing, Tesla, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, GE Digital, Amazon, FedEx, Space X, LinkedIn and USAA,” Johns said.
