Forty wounded, ill and injured Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and veterans will represent Team Navy at the 2019 Department of Defense Warrior Games June 21-30 in Tampa, Florida.

The athletes were evaluated by Navy Wounded Warrior-Safe Harbor at the 2019 Team Navy Trials, which took place March 15-22 at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California. During the trials, 55 athletes competed in 13 sporting events, including powerlifting, rowing, archery, cycling, track, field, shooting, swimming, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, golf and wheelchair rugby.

“These Navy wounded warriors competed with heart and determination all while building teamwork and camaraderie,” said Navy Wounded Warrior-Safe Harbor Director Ron Downs. “I could not be more proud of the athletes who participated Team Navy Trials. Their ability to overcome challenges is truly an inspiration to us all.”

The Team Navy Trials are part of the Navy Wounded Warrior-Safe Harbor program, which is the Navy’s sole organization for coordinating the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, and providing resources and support to their families. Navy Wounded Warrior has assisted more than 6,600 service members throughout the country.

The 2019 Team Navy roster is made up of Sailors and Coast Guardsmen with diverse backgrounds and a variety of skill sets selected from every region in the country. This year’s Team Navy will compete against teams representing the Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Special Operations Command, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Denmark and the Netherlands. More than 250 active-duty service members and veterans are expected to compete at this year's Warrior Games.

Since 2010, the Warrior Games have aided in the recovery and rehabilitation of our nation's wounded, ill, and injured service men and women as they prepare to return to duty or transition to the civilian world.
