TSC San Diego Conducts Command Climate Assessment

Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego Commanding Officer Capt. Michael Feyedelem met with military and civilian staff to discuss results from the command climate survey, July 12.
Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego Commanding Officer Capt. Michael Feyedelem met with military and civilian staff to discuss results from the command climate survey, July 12.

The survey is designed to measure command climate factors including equal opportunity and organizational effectiveness. Focus groups were also conducted with staff members to explore topics such as fair treatment and organizational processes.

Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate, (Equipment) Leguan Penigo, TSC San Diego training support leading chief petty officer, stressed the importance of the focus groups giving Sailors an opportunity to share their opinions in a professional open forum, regardless of rank.

"We need to ensure that our Sailors feel comfortable enough to voice their opinions to the chain of command," said Penigo. "If they understand how seriously their opinion matters to senior leadership, they will be more inclined to present their concerns."

Results from the survey were strong as the command scored above the Navy average in each category. Concerns such as creating more opportunities for junior Sailors and improving internal organizational processes were addressed with all hands.

"We are always looking for ways to improve," said Feyedelem. "If there are processes we need to improve, please bring those forward. Treat people professionally across the board. If we continue to do that, we should have no issues."
