The Navy Exchange aboard Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is the winner of the 2017 Bingham Award for Category 9 which represents stores with sales less than $650,000, the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) announced July 20.

NEXCOM annually presents the Bingham Award to the best rated Navy Exchange (NEX) in nine designated sales categories.

"This award is a direct representation of the hard work and dedication from the staff. They continuously provide quality goods and services to Naval Weapon Station Seal Beach," said Jennifer McComas, general manager of the Navy Exchange Port Hueneme Complex.

Each NEX has to demonstrate superior performance and have the best overall financial and customer results.

"This is a great accomplishment and certainly a noteworthy recognition," said base Commanding Officer, Capt. Noel Dahlke. "Our sailors, eligible civilian employees, and family members routinely receive excellent service from the NEX staff. While our NEX is small in size, they make up for it in value and service!"

NEXCOM manages 100 NEX facilities and approximately 300 stores worldwide, the NEXCOM District Vice Presidents nominate NEXs worthy of consideration for the Bingham award.

The award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance in operations, customer service and community support. The Bingham award is named in honor of the late Capt. W.H. Bingham. Capt. Bingham was appointed to lead an advisory board for the establishment of NEXCOM in 1946.

"Just to be nominated is an honor but to win the Bingham Award is a tremendous achievement. This wouldn't have been possible with the commitment and relentless hard work from the associates," said Fulvia Dorcey, branch exchange manager. "We take great pride in improving the lives of our military members and their families."
