Researchers from Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) will present their research during the 2018 Neuro Trauma Symposium, Aug. 11 – 16.
The joint symposium of the International and National Neurotrauma Societies and American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Section will be held at the Westin Harbour Castle hotel in downtown Toronto, Canada. The goal of the International and National Neurotrauma societies is to foster neurotrauma research and facilitate the exchange of knowledge between organizations dedicated to caring for and curing victims of brain injury.
“Our researchers are eager to present their work on traumatic brain injuries during the symposium,” said Dr. Stephen Ahlers, director of NMRC’s Operational and Undersea Medicine Directorate (OUMD).
OUMD’s researchers are entrusted to seek methods to reduce injury to deployed Sailors and Marines across the world and find ways to improve their performance. They develop cutting-edge technologies to prevent and treat decompression sickness and mild traumatic brain injuries, and to enhance treatment outcomes for combat wounds.
The symposium will feature academic courses and training, breakout sessions, side meetings, and mentorship opportunities. The annual event provides an opportunity for NMRC researchers to network with more than 1,000 fellow scientists, academics, and industry leaders from around the world, and to highlight their innovative and pioneering work in the field of neurotrauma.
Naval Medical Research Center supports the Navy, Marine Corps, and joint U.S. warfighter. Its researchers study infectious diseases, biological warfare detection and defense, combat casualty care, aerospace and undersea medicine, medical modeling, simulation and operational mission support, and epidemiology and behavioral sciences. NMRC’s goal is to deliver high-value, high-impact research products to support and protect today’s deployed warfighters. At the same time, researchers are looking to the readiness and well-being of future forces.
