NAVFAC Northwest Receives Award for Acquisition Excellence

27 September 2018
Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest has been selected to receive the Sarkis Tatigian Award for their Office of Small Business programs.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Northwest recently learned that they had been selected to receive the Sarkis Tatigian Award for their Office of Small Business programs.

Capt. Matthew Anderson, executive officer of NAVFAC Northwest said, “This prestigious award is a direct reflection of NAVFAC Northwest’s enduring commitment to work with our local community and small businesses as they provide innovative solutions and agility in performing critical facility maintenance, repairs and modernization to the Navy’s infrastructure.”

The Northwest Small Business program perpetuates the “Small Business First” culture through a sharp-focused effort on exceeding performance objectives and exploring innovative approaches to small business contracting. This driving effort led the command to attain the best small business achievement in its 12-year history, an overall 67 percent achievement rate for contract actions awarded to small businesses, which amounted to $219 million going directly to small business concerns.

In addition, the command awarded its first large capacity, large task order range, total small business Multiple Award Construction Contract. This MEGA MAC contract will create new opportunities for local small businesses to participate in larger and more complex projects.

“Our suite of Small Business Multiple Award Construction contracts enables the small business community to efficiently deliver essential construction services to the Navy in the Northwest and ensures the local industrial base continues to grow and support the needs of the Navy,” said Jim Niles the NAVFAC Northwest Deputy for Small Business.

This award recognizes a DON Echelon III or IV field contracting command which exemplifies the highest examples of small business acquisition excellence, and whose achievement brings significant credit to the DON acquisition community.

This award was named after Mr. Sarkis Tatigian, the Naval Sea Systems Command Small Business Director with 75 years of Naval Service. Tatigian began his Navy career in 1942 and is the longest serving civil servant in the history of the Department of the Navy.  Tatigian is still working for the Navy in Washington, D. C., and has no plans for retirement.
