Capt. Matthew S. Rick, commanding officer, Training Support Center Hampton Roads (TSCHR) announced the fourth quarter Sailor of the Quarter (SOQ) at an all-hands call onboard Naval Air Station Oceana Dam Neck Annex Oct. 11.
Logistics Specialist 1st Class Johnnita Joseph, TSCHR Business Management, Customer Service Leading Petty Officer was selected as the SOQ.
As the leading petty officer for the Dam Neck N8 site, Joseph led a team of seven logistics specialists to obligate $350,000 dollars in credit card purchases and 150 printing requests for 34 CONUS/OCONUS learning sites and was key in the successful closeout of fiscal year 2018. Additionally, she led two Full Speed Ahead training sessions, five in-rate learning events, two community relations projects and ensured 100 percent general military training completion within TSCHR.
Rick commended Joseph for her selection as SOQ and her hard work ethic saying, “This isn’t the first time Petty Officer Joseph has won the SOQ, she’ a multi-winner.”
Joseph has 18 years in the Navy and is originally from Plaquemine, Louisiana.
Petty Officer Joseph attributes her success to her mentors, “I owe a huge ‘thank you’ to the mentors who have listened, guided me, and who have molded me to be a better sailor and leader,” said Joseph.
As for the junior students and sailors striving to be their best, Joseph had these words of encouragement, “Be humble, be open to advice, take on challenges and your next success story will depend on how you handled your last setback.”
The SOQ program is designed to recognize and reward the performance and dedication of outstanding enlisted Sailors.
