Supply Corps Enlisted Roadshow Visits NAVSUP FLC Norfolk

01 November 2018
The annual Supply Corps Enlisted Roadshow provide information for Sailors in supply ratings to help them with their careers.

The Supply Corps Enlisted Roadshow travelled to the Norfolk area, Oct. 23-25, for presentations to Sailors in enlisted supply ratings at Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Air Station Oceana, and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

The roadshow, featuring the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) command master chief and technical advisors from the enlisted community management branch, held two sessions in Building W-143 on board Naval Station Norfolk. Topics included community management, advancement, retention, career planning, and special programs.

The enlisted plans division of NAVSUP travels worldwide to dispense career information to enlisted Sailors in supply ratings.

“The Supply Enlisted Roadshow has an annual schedule,” explained Supply Enlisted Community Manager CSC Chris Roth. “We go coast to coast, station to station and overseas as well.”

The roadshow has become a very successful tool for the fleet to get updated information on the supply ratings. The sessions hosted by NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk at Building W-143 on board Naval Station Norfolk attracted Sailors from afloat and shore commands from throughout the local area. Two sessions were held there, one on Oct. 23, the other on Oct. 25. Each of those sessions lasted nearly three hours each with very active audience participation.

“In a fleet concentration area such as Norfolk, it provides the opportunity for Sailors to put faces to names and allows us as ECMs (enlisted community managers) or detailers to provide more in-depth explanations” said Roth. “This, in turn, creates a greater awareness of the Sailor’s career development. Last year, the Sailors wanted more time to ask questions, so this year they were afforded the opportunity in the form of one-on-one sessions in the afternoon.”

Roth added that more than 200 Sailors either attended or were assisted with one-on-one sessions during the two days at NAVSUP FLC Norfolk.

NAVSUP Command Master Chief Thaddeus Wright kicked off each session by explaining what would be covered, as well as giving the audience the history of the roadshow.

“The Supply Enlisted Roadshow is an in-depth career development board provided by the subject matter experts from the supply enlisted community team, as well as the subject matter experts from Naval Personnel Command’s detailing shop tailored for Sailors who wear the supply enlisted rating badge and those who are in the NAVSUP family,” said Wright.

He also introduced Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic Force Master Chief Kevin Goodrich, who provided opening remarks.

“His words of inclusion and the value we bring to the warfighter did not fall on deaf ears,” said Wright. “In fact, his words not only challenged us, but they reminded all of us that we truly are ‘One Team, One Fight!’”

“We promote community health, career opportunities, Sailor 2025 initiatives and the modernization going on in the Navy and how supply Sailors are benefiting from these changes,” said Roth. “The detailers do a lot of ‘myth-busting’ and provide detailed insight on how to best apply for orders and the processes that affect personnel seeking to change duty stations.”
