Twenty-nine service members received their United States citizenship during a naturalization ceremony aboard the decommissioned battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64), Nov. 8.

The Honorable Henry Coke Morgan Jr., United States magistrate judge, led the Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America.

After the Oath of Allegiance, First Vice Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Great Bridge chapter, Roberta Gribble led the American’s Creed, then Morgan presented the certificates of citizenship to the service members.

“Getting my citizenship is a huge milestone in achieving my goals,” said Personnel Specialist 3rd Class Calisia Reidmattis. “Now that I’m here, I’ll be presented with a lot more opportunities in my life.”

The service members came from different countries, to include: the Philippines, Ghana, Cameroon, Vietnam, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Jamaica, Togo, Nigeria, Federated States of Micronesia and Burkina Faso.

In the last 17 years, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has naturalized more than 100,000 military service members.
