Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC) announced its Sailors of the Year during a ceremony, Dec. 7.

Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC) announced its Sailors of the Year during a ceremony, Dec. 7.

Legalman (LN) 1st Class Rebecca Duclayan and Information Systems Technician (IT) 2nd Class Bevin Mighty were named Senior and Junior Sailor of the Year, respectively.

As COMLOG WESTPAC staff legalman and N1 department leading petty officer, Duclayan provides legal and military justice assistance to active-duty service members, civilians and their dependents. She also manages all aspects of administration and defense travel with a $4.8-million budget.

“LN1’s performance has been nothing short of outstanding,” said Chief Navy Counselor Anthony Blarek, Duclayan’s leading chief petty officer. “She’s a great leader and mentor, and always comes through no matter what the task is.”

Duclayan said not only is it an honor, but a responsibility to represent the command.

“It’s very humbling,” said Duclayan. “I grew up in the Navy, and every person I’ve met, senior or junior to me, has helped shape the Sailor and leader that I am today. It’s they who really deserve this award, because I wouldn’t be where I am today if it was not for them.

In addition to her primary duties, Duclayan is also an active member in the community, volunteering for numerous events, including the Second Angel Christmas Tree donation drive and the Community Holiday Party.

Mighty serves as a support technician with COMLOG WESTPAC’s communication and information systems department, where he is responsible for oversight and management of command, control, communications, computers and intelligence support.

Outside of his primary duties, Mighty supported numerous command programs and events, including Hispanic Heritage Month and the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society fund drive kickoff.

“IT2 has proved to the department and staff that he’s the go-to Sailor when a task needs to be completed,” said Senior Chief Information Systems Technician Donald Stephens, the department’s leading chief petty officer. “His efforts have really enabled the staff command and control capabilities to exceed mission requirements.”

Mighty said he was grateful to have been recognized by the command with such a high-level award.

"It feels great to be selected for this award,” he said. “It can be kind of hard for ITs to get recognized sometimes, because we’re usually very well hidden. So, it’s reassuring to know that the command sees what we all do, regardless of where we work.

Mighty also said he owes significant credit to his department for setting him up for success.

Individual selection criteria for the awards was based upon exemplary performance of tasks, contributions that enhanced organization accomplishment of command objectives, mission, teamwork or public image, and professional attitude toward self and others.
