Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Whidbey Island kept the Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island Captain's Cup trophy when NAS announced the unit's 2017 victory Feb. 9.

The win marks the second consecutive year CNATTU Whidbey Island took first place in the annual athletic competition, including fitness and intramural sporting events all year long.
CNATTU Whidbey Island was awarded 565 points at the end of the competition, exceeding the closest competitor's score by more than 200 points.

"One of the most significant aspects of basewide events such as Captain's Cup competitions is coming together as a team," said Cmdr. Kelly Bishop, CNATTU Whidbey Island commanding officer,. "Our Sailors are showcasing not only their professionalism in the classroom, but their cohesiveness as a unit. I personally thank all personnel, both staff and students, who contributed in winning the 2017 Captain's Cup."

CNATTU Whidbey Island participated in 14 fitness events and 14 intramural events, winning the golf competition and placing first and second in racquetball. They also took second place in bowling and the gladiator games, and made a clean sweep of dodgeball, capturing first, second and third place.

"Participants were excited to be part of these events," said Aviation Electrician's Mate 1st Class Ronald Ryan, CNATTU Whidbey Island Captain's Cup organizer. "As an instructor, we task our students with so much. Being able to include them in something, which promotes our Navy's values, is a great way for us to constructively engage them outside the classroom, while they're away from family and friends."

CNATTU Whidbey Island also received a plaque for permanent display.

"We are excited about this year's events and are striving to bring it back to CNATTU for the third time," said Bishop.

CNATTU Whidbey Island provides specialized technical training for enlisted personnel in the maintenance and repair of aircraft and support equipment.

CNATTU Whidbey Island is a training unit for CNATT, a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE), an organization designed to advance and sustain Naval Aviation warfighting capabilities, under Naval Education and Training Command.
