Adm. James G. Foggo III, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples, Italy, participated as a guest panelist for the Chatham House's annual "Security and Defence" discussion in London, March 12.

The Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is an independent policy institute whose mission, according to their website, is to help build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world.

This discussion was held under the "Chatham House Rule," which states, "When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed."

Foggo was a member of a panel that discussed "new patterns of intervention." Following his session, Foggo elaborated on this topic during an interview with Chatham House's media team.

"We can't predict with a hundred percent accuracy what the next threat would be or where, God forbid, the next war will be," said Foggo. "What's important as an alliance is that we remain strong."

Foggo also explained what is expected from NATO in terms of intervention.

"We have got to be ready for any contingency," said Foggo. "We have to be able to fight a large scale war. We have to get there quickly. At the same time, we have to maintain regional stability and try to prevent things from happening on the ground that might impact NATO partners or allies, that could lead to a regional crisis or a small war."

In addition to participating in the Chatham House event, Foggo met with senior military and civilian officials in London to discuss the U.S and U.K.'s strong partnership.
