The 2018 Class of Leadership Millington spent the day learning about Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mid-South on March 8, as they toured the different facilities and tenant commands on base.

Leadership Millington is an annual program run by the Millington Chamber of Commerce to help grow leaders in the community while increasing awareness of the different aspects of the city including government, schools, and industry. The class meets once a month in addition to an overnight visit to the state capitol in Nashville to observe legislative meetings.

Members of this year's class come from all different organizations in the town including leaders in the government, schools and personnel from the base.

"Our leadership class sure learned a lot about the base," said Glynn Williford, a member of the 2018 class. "As a civilian, I had no idea exactly how important our base is to the Navy. It's safe to say, our NSA Mid-South plays a vital role in the Navy not only locally, but globally as well."

The NSA Mid-South tour included a full day where class members learned not only about the lifestyle and services of life on the installation, but how the tenant commands play a vital role in manning the fleet and ensuring national security.

The base hosts the program every year as an opportunity to help those throughout the city and surrounding communities understand the importance of the missions carried out at the installation.

"As a recent graduate of Leadership Millington, I've seen firsthand how this program helps grow our sense of community and pride for Millington and the installation," said Capt. David Bryson, commanding officer of NSA Mid-South. "We were excited to host this year's class to show off the great things going on at NSA Mid-South every day."

During the tour, the class toured the recreation center, Navy Exchange and Helmsman Club. They also received briefs from major tenant commands like Naval Personnel Command and Navy Recruiting Command and got a chance to vote during a mock board at the selections board.
