Surface Warfare Officer School Unit (SWOSU) Great Lakes awarded Instructors of the Year, and Instructors and Sailors of the Quarter, during a ceremony, April 10.

Master Chief Machinist's Mate Michael Waranis, senior enlisted advisor at SWOSU Great Lakes, said the boards were challenging for the instructors reflecting the high quality and commitment to excellence demonstrated at the command.

"The selection board had the pleasure of judging an outstanding group of nominees," Waranis said. "We look at a number of factors from the nominees; such as overall performance, education, speaking ability, community involvement, evaluations, etc."

Cmdr. Patterson, commanding officer of SWOSU Great Lakes, said the selections epitomize the dedication and professionalism of Sailors within the command. He has every confidence they will continue to provide Sailors with the needed and necessary training for the world's finest Navy.

"We're very lucky to have such an exceptional staff working here at SWOSU Great Lakes," Patterson said. "Outstanding leadership challenges and superb qualification programs exist here; Master Training Specialist program, Course Supervisor and Curriculum Manager, and it's a great chance to make a positive impact on Fleet readiness. I highly encourage Surface Quartermasters and Engineers to seek instructor duty up here at Great Lakes."
