Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Keesler's Electrician's Mate 1st Class Brittany Sledge was recognized as the Naval Education and Training Command's (NETC) top collateral duty safety officer for 2017 at a ceremony onboard Keesler Air Force Base April 10.

NETC's Excellence in Safety Award program recognizes outstanding support and achievement by individual commands and personnel for their efforts in Safety and Occupational Health and High Risk Training Safety.

"Safety is a career-long priority for all hands," said CNATTU Keesler Commanding Officer Cmdr. Timothy Knapp. "It is exciting to see Petty Officer Sledge recognized across all of the commands within the NETC domain as the best at one of her many duties."

Sledge's management of the CNATTU Keesler command safety program saw a 22 percent decrease in mishaps which resulted in the command receiving the highest possible score during the NETC 2018 Safety and Occupational Health Management Evaluation.

Sledge, a native of Ellijay, Georgia, is completing a three-year shore-duty tour at CNATTU Keesler as a course supervisor and instructor for the Precision Physical and Dimensional Measurement School. She also serves as the Sexual Assault and Prevention (SAPR) victim advocate.

"I could not have maintained our command safety program by myself," said Sledge. "This award represents the continued efforts of all of our staff and students. Everyone has chosen to make safety a priority at this command, and it shows every day."

CNATTU Keesler is a training unit of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. CNATT develops, delivers, and supports aviation technical training at 27 sites located throughout the continental United States and Japan.

CNATT is a training center under Naval Education and Training Command, and is a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise, an organization designed to advance and sustain naval aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost.
