The guided-missile destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99) departed Portsmouth, United Kingdom, April 24, following a three-day port visit.

Farragut Sailors had the opportunity to visit HMS Victory and other historical sites as they traveled around Portsmouth to become familiar with the history and culture of the region.

"Getting off the ship onto a country you've never been before is always something new, as you don't know necessarily know what to expect," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Kevin O'Brien. "The brief time spent in Portsmouth will be cherished and I hope to come back some time in the future to get to know the region more."

While moored pier side at Her Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth, Farragut also conducted a tour and hosted local media.

"When we pull into ports such as Portsmouth, we are always excited to interact with our host city," said Ensign Merrillee Palmer. "It was a pleasure to be able to give a tour of the Farragut and share our naval knowledge."

Farragut is currently deployed as part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group. With USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as the flagship, deployed strike group units include staffs, ships and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group Eight (CSG 8), Destroyer Squadron Two Eight (DESRON 28) and Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1); as well as Sachsen-class German Frigate FGS Hessen (F221).

U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
