Arleigh Burke Arrives In Malta

26 April 2018
USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51), the first ship in the Arleigh Burke-class of guided missile destroyers, arrived in Valletta, Malta, April 26 for a scheduled port visit.
The visit reaffirms U.S.-Malta relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

"We are honored and excited to visit this beautiful nation," said Cmdr. Errol Robinson, commanding officer of Arleigh Burke. "Our crew looks forward to this port visit and the relationships we expect to forge. These types of engagements solidify relations among the United States, our allies and partners, as we work toward the mutual goal of peace, prosperity and maritime stability in the Mediterranean."

During the port call, Sailors will take part in community service and morale, welfare and recreation events that will give them opportunities to meet the people of Valletta and to experience the rich history and culture of Malta.

Previous port visits to Malta by U.S. Navy ships include U.S. Sixth Fleet flagship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) in January 2018 and guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) in December 2017.

Arleigh Burke is deployed as part of the Harry S. Truman Strike Group, which departed Norfolk and Mayport, Florida, April 11, 2018, for a scheduled deployment to support maritime security operations, provide crisis response capability, and increase theater security cooperation and forward naval presence in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
