Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Fort Gordon students hosted a Battle of Midway commemoration presentation on board Fort Gordon, June 5.

The World War II battle was fought June 3-7, 1942 between the U.S. Navy and the Japanese Imperial Navy at and near the island of Midway in the central Pacific Ocean. The United States won the battle.

The CIWT Det. Fort Gordon staff and students observed as Electronics Technician 2nd Class Christopher Folkman, Electronics Technician 2nd Class Trevor Oyler, Electronics Technician 3rd Class Jasmine Lee, and Electronics Technician Seaman Tasten Mackay delivered the presentation about the Battle of Midway and its significance to the information warfare domain. Japanese codes that were broken at U.S. radio interception station and decryption center station HYPO at Pearl Harbor helped to discover an attack on Midway was pending.

The students dedicated several off-duty hours over the span of one month to prepare their presentation. It was comprised of a slideshow and an explanation of the historical significance of Midway, a timeline of the battle's events, and a description of some of the ways in which the United States has commemorated the sacrifices made during our country's victory at Midway.

After the presentation, the students' leading petty officer Electronics Technician 1st Class D'Angelo Morman said, "I want to acknowledge the hard work and courage of these Sailors. They did an excellent job honoring those who fought in the Battle of Midway by accurately presenting the events that took place. Bravo Zulu, shipmates!"
