Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson visited Denmark to strengthen maritime partnerships and international relationships, June. 27-28.

During the visit, hosted by his counterpart, Chief of the Royal Danish Navy Rear Adm. Torben Mikkelsen, Richardson met with Danish Vice Chief of Defense, Lt. Gen. Max A.L.T. Nielsen and other senior officials.

The leaders discussed expanding and strengthening the partnership between their two navies by exploring new opportunities for combined forward operations.

"It was very important for me to stop in Denmark to recognize the importance of the U.S. Navy's relationship with the Royal Danish Navy and to discuss ways to make the partnership even stronger going forward," said Richardson.

Richardson had the opportunity to tour the Danish Defense Command in Copenhagen, and he received operational demonstrations aboard a Danish Diana-class patrol vessel.

Richardson said the U.S. and Denmark naval partnership is a priority and a relationship he seeks to strengthen through information sharing, interoperability initiatives, and combined operations.

Earlier this month, Denmark, along with 20 countries including Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and NATO participated in BALTOPS 2018.

BALTOPS is an annual, multinational exercise to enhance maritime capabilities, interoperability and support regional stability.
