Staff from Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in Libertyville to pack meals for those in need around the world June 30.

More than 20 TSC Sailors and civilian staff assisted helpers from the surrounding community pack meals. Since January TSC volunteers have packed more than 1,932 boxes containing 364,560 meals; enough to feed 1,140 kids for an entire year.

To make the meals the volunteers combined soy, rice, vitamins and vegetables into plastic bags and then sealed them. The meals are one of three separate meal plans Feed My Starving Children prepares and distributes to 70 countries worldwide.

"I am extremely proud of everyone who gives up their liberty time to come and help save the lives of these children who have nothing," said Navy Military Training Instructor Aviation Electronics Technician First Class Megan Hnatuk, the community outreach coordinator. "Everyone always has a good time packing and they bring their friends and families which makes everyone feel good and it is all to help children around the world."

TSC Great Lakes staff has a long tradition of volunteering in the local community. The unique opportunity volunteering for Feed My Starving Children is to help the hungry from all over the world.

"What motivates me to volunteer is knowing that what I do at each volunteer session is actually saving the lives of children all over the world," She said. "These children are innocent and deserve a chance at life."
