NAVFAC Southwest Awards $249 Million In Construction, Renovation, Repairs

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded multiple award construction contracts (MACC) June 18 with a combined maximum dollar value of $249 million for new construction, renovation, and repair projects at various government installations in its area of responsibility (AOR).

"Having this new Heavy Horizontal MACC in place will ensure NAVFAC Southwest can support its customer's construction projects and programs while fostering a competitive environment," said Robin Green NAVFAC Southwest Capital Improvements Acquisition Core director.

Orion Construction Corp. of Vista, Bilbro Construction Co. Inc. of Escondido, Reyes Construction Inc. of Pomona, M. A. Mortenson Co. doing business as (dba) Mortenson Construction of Minneapolis, Minn., Baldi Bros. Inc. of Beaumont; Granite Construction Co. of Watsonville, and Hal Hays Construction Inc. of Riverside were each awarded a construction contract.

"The Heavy Horizontal Construction MACC will fill an existing need for NAVFAC Southwest region," said Ken Simmons, NAVFAC Southwest contract manager for these contracts. "Many ranges channels, embankments, ammunition magazines and similar projects will utilize this MACC."

The work to be completed for new construction, renovation, and repair within the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code listed are primarily by design-build and secondarily by design-bid-build, heavy horizontal and civil engineering construction projects. Types of projects may include outdoor shooting, combat training ranges and terrains, canals and channels, dams and embankments, bridges, erosion control and storm-water management, landfills, ammunition weapons magazines, irrigation and landscaping, recreational fields and parks, and tunneling and horizontal directional drilling.

NAVFAC Southwest's AOR includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.
