Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain Detachment Dubai hosted a Value Stream Analysis Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) event involving subject matter experts from NAVSUP FLC Bahrain, Command Task Force-53, Defense Logistics Agency and military members throughout the regional command, June 11-14.

The purpose of the value stream analysis was to document the current process flow of materials destined to United Arab Emirates (UAE) from end state delivery to the customer. Once the process was initially documented, the CPI participants reviewed it and identified opportunities for improvement. The completed and finalized process was designed to either improve the process flow or to realign processes under the most appropriate organization.

"The value stream analysis fostered a deeper appreciation for the various organizations involved in meeting the mission," said Jacqueline Adams, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain Continuous Process Improvement Director.

The CPI event revealed barriers that the team would have to address to ensure, a successful implementation of changes and potential realignment effects.

The second stage of the CPI event developed the future state process flow, including identified changes. After conducting the initial data collection, subject matter experts gained a greater understanding of the workload and the operational capacity of the various organizations involved in the transporting and delivery processes of materials flowing into the UAE, in support of the Fifth Fleet's mission.

To conclude the event, the team identified the critical maximum capacity thresholds of operations and mechanisms required by the collective logistics teams to support and sustain the mission during full combat operations. These assessments are being presented to leaders for further actions on process improvement actions.

"Trying to streamline the logistics process to best serve our fleet in all capacities, NAVSUP Bahrain has commenced a project that will expedite logistics around the clock in any fleet volume. This project is a major undertaking involving five entities: NAVSUP, JTF-53, DLA, CSA, and the Ships themselves; determining the most expeditious fashion to best support our fleet and their needs. When the project is complete, logistic readiness will be able to support up to 20 ships in the same time frame as one, said Dale Bishop, NAVSUP Headquarters Master Black Belt."
