Sailors from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three (NMCB3) Detachment Okinawa completed the annual Airfield Damage Repair (ADR) exercise with engineers from Republic of Korea Air Wing Six (AW6) at Pohang Airfield August 24.

The purpose of the ADR was to improve mission interoperability between the U.S. and ROK forces through hands-on training.

"It was a great experience working side-by-side with our Korean counterparts today," said Lt. Chris Hebert, officer in charge of NMCB3. " [this exercise] focused on interoperability and an exchange of technical expertise."

Eight Sailors from NMCB3 traveled to Pohang to train the ROK engineers from AW6 to use fiberglass panels known as Folded-Fiberglass Mat (FFM) for expeditious repair of airfield damage.

Observing the exercise on behalf of Commander, Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) was Capt. James Croom, commanding officer, CNFK Reserve Engineers Detachment, and Cmdr. Jeff Pfiel, CNFK staff engineer. During their visit, Croom and Pfiel met with ROK Navy Capt. Roh Kyung Woo, commander of Pohang Airfield, to discuss the exercise and future opportunities for training and combined construction projects.

"The ROK Navy Engineers capabilities exhibited at this exercise were impressive," said Croom, "Their capabilities are among the best. This was a great opportunity for U. S. Navy Seabees to train alongside their ROK partners."
