Surface Warfare Officer School Unit (SWOSU) Great Lakes awarded its 4th quarter selections of Sailors of the Quarter and Instructors of the Quarter during a ceremony, Aug. 31.

The SOQs include: Machinist's Mate 1st Class Steven Serret, selected as sailor; and Damage Controlman 2nd Class Donald Long, selected as junior sailor. The IOQs include: Gas Turbine System Technician Electrical Chief Przemyslaw Lesniewicz, selected as senior instructor; Engineman 1st Class Zachary Schall, selected as instructor; and Damage Controlman 2nd Class Javier Fernandez, selected as junior instructor.

SWOSU Great Lakes Executive Officer Cmdr. Andre Cleveland said the boards were highly competitive reflecting the high quality and commitment to excellence demonstrated at the command.

"I look at SOQs and IOQs with a deeper value at SWOSU," Cleveland said. "These Sailors standing in front of students every day are not just delivering training; they are examples of professionalism to the students, and they are the Navy's technical and subject matter experts. Competing against those that are the 'best of the best' every day and are on the same plain as professionals, means you need to operate at another level than your peers."

Lesniewicz is committed to giving as much time and effort to any Sailor and pushes himself to be the best he can be to not disappoint shipmates watching him.

"Much of our fleet consists of gas turbine engineering plants, and I get to be part of the force that trains both the accession and the fleet returnee Sailors in the technical sphere of the gas turbine systems," he said. "My goals are to facilitate the successful delivery of the training material through my staff to the students, positively respond to the curriculum and training challenges, and finally return home to my family with the satisfaction that all is done at work."
