Naval Facilities Engineering Command Far East awarded a $501,748 contract to replace light fixtures with LED lights on board Naval Air Facility Misawa, Japan, Sept. 8.

All lights at two Navy Gateway Inns and Suites and one unaccompanied housing facility will be replaced, more than 3500 fixtures.

"These LED lights have many proven advantages over older lights," said Installation Energy Manager Tom Carpenter. "Most importantly, their superior reliability provides enhanced safety and security for the installation and its residents. They are far more energy efficient with a projected energy savings of nearly 30 percent, which is good for both the environment and the bottom line of the Navy's Utilities budget. This helps NAF Misawa achieve Navy and Federal energy savings goals set forth by Executive Order 13693. In addition, they last much longer and require less maintenance and replacement than older generation lighting options. LED's are a win/win for Navy Energy"

The project will also include demolition and repair of associated electrical and architectural systems.

The contract was awarded to Kamikita Kensetsu Co. Work is scheduled for completion in May 2018.
