More than 80 students from Reedley High School's Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) visited Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Lemoore Sept. 19.

The visit, organized by Lt. Donald Phelps, CNATTU Lemoore Training Support Department (TSD) department head, and TSD Leading Chief Petty Officer, Chief Aviation Electronics Technician Collin Tomberlin, included presentations from instructors on the Integrated Virtual Environment Maintenance Trainer (IVEMT).

"Visiting CNATTU Lemoore is a fantastic benefit for our students," said retired Cmdr. Christopher Bodine, the Reedley High School NJROTC senior naval science instructor. "This allows them to experience the F/A-18 Super Hornet firsthand and learn the different components of the aircraft, and maybe this experience may inspire them to one day decide to join the armed forces."

Instructors demonstrated simulated functions using the IVEMT, including flight controls, engines, weapons, flight station, avionics and electrical systems. Instructors also answered questions from the group of largely freshman students.

"Our instructors were able to highlight the advanced technology we house in our facility and demonstrate our duties and responsibilities in support of naval aviation," said CNATTU Lemoore Commanding Officer Cmdr. Tommy Edgeworth. "This visit will have a huge impact for those students who may one day want to fly or work on military aircraft."

CNATTU Lemoore is a training unit specific to the F/A-18 Hornet platform, and is part of Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT), headquartered at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. CNATT develops, delivers and supports aviation technical training at 27 sites located throughout the continental United States and Japan.

CNATT is a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) an organization designed to advance and sustain Naval Aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost under Naval Education and Training Command.
