Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Adm. Phil Davidson, embarked USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) Oct. 11 to meet with Sailors and provide his guidance for at-sea operations.

During his visit, Davidson received a tour of the ship, addressed the crew and awarded the Truman's Warrior of the Day award, and hosted a discussion with the ship's Surface Warfare Officers and bridge watch standers.

"To all the leaders on this ship, from E-4 to O-7, engaging your people is incredibly important," said Davidson. "I want you to encourage them to bring the information they know to any situation they're operating in. Make sure that all the leaders understand that disagreement or input doesn't mean disrespect or dissent. We're all in this together."

In his address, Davidson went on to discuss Truman's current work-up cycle and the importance of creating a team while preparing for deployment. He also issued a challenge to the crew, setting a high standard for future operations.

"You're following a number of deployments, including Truman's previous, of exceptional capability in combat," said Davidson. "Each strike group has been doing better and better. I'll tell you right off the bat, the challenge is now over to you as the next deploying carrier to do better than those before you. I wish you all luck in the world and the work-ups ahead. I want you to take care of each other on this journey and bring everyone home. That's a successful deployment."

Truman is currently underway conducting Tailored Shipboard Training Availability and Final Evaluation Problem (TSTA/FEP) in preparation for future operations.
