Center for Service Support (CSS) released overhauled versions of the Musician (MU) Basic and Advanced rating non-resident training course (NRTC), October 2017.

The new courses were developed over the last two years and gathered fleet input through workshops conducted at the Naval School of Music, Virginia Beach, Virginia, by a group of subject matter experts from both ratings. The last revision of the Musician NRTC was over 25 years ago and the re-write of four manuals condensed material to two manuals.

The musician workshop, conducted by Master Chief Musician Jonathan Ward, Naval School of Music and Senior Chief Musician Nathan Bissell, Center for Service Support MU training manager. The Non-Resident Training Course Manager, Richard Rangel for Center for Service Support (CSS) Newport, Rhode Island, oversaw the process to ensure that during the two year contract all edits from the fleet were made and were aligned with the occupational standards for both ratings.

The working groups were comprised of musicians from both the Navy and Marines, and they provided their expertise in their appropriate fields.

The NRTCs are tools designed for use as a reference guide by active-duty and Naval Reserve Sailors, individual learning courses, advancement exam preparation, and Ready, Relevant Learning as part of Sailor 2025.

The new NRTCs will be available to Sailors beginning October 2018, via Naval Education and Training Command's NRTC library website at: https://www.courses.netc.navy.mil/.

Center for Service Support is comprised of active-duty, civilian, and contract personnel, who direct the training efforts of seven learning sites and providing training for the Navy's administration, logistics and media ratings.
