Cmdr. Evan Colbert relieved Cmdr. Patrick Gerhardstein as commanding officer of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 6 in a change of command ceremony held at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Dec. 8.

"In his time at Mobile Unit 6, Cmdr. Gerhardstein trained and pushed his Sailors to the limits and made them better because of that," said Capt. Josh Jackson, commander of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group (EODGRU) 2. "I am confident that you and your team could be sent anywhere in the world, and I am very confident that you would succeed at any mission given to you."

The mission of EODMU 6 is to man, train and equip forces to perform EOD, expeditionary underwater mine countermeasures and special operations mission support across the full spectrum or military operations.

"The men and women of Mobile Unit 6 are the strongest crew of quiet professionals I have served with in my career," Gerhardstein said. "This has been by far the best and most rewarding tour that I have had."

For his time as commanding officer of EODMU 6, Gerhardstein was presented the Meritorious Service Medal. Upon receiving his end of tour award, Gerhardstein read his orders and turned over command to Colbert.

After receiving the command-at-sea pin from Gerhardstein, Colbert spoke to the men and women of EODMU 6 for the first time as commanding officer.

"EOD Mobile Unit 6 has an incredible heritage and I am so proud to now be part of it," Colbert said. "I look forward to maintaining the high standards already in place as we move forward together as a team."

EODMU 6 is assigned to EODGRU 2, headquartered at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. EODGRU 2 oversees all east coast-based Navy EOD mobile units, including one forward-deployed mobile unit in Spain, as well as EOD Expeditionary Support Unit 2, EOD Training and Evaluation Unit 2, and the only east coast-based mobile diving and salvage unit, MDSU 2.
