Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Global Logistics Support (GLS) Rear Adm. "Chip" Chase visited several sites in the southeast region Dec. 4-6.

Stopping first at NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville, Chase had a windshield tour of Naval Air Station Jacksonville before touring the Bulk Fuel Facility at Defense Fuel Supply Point (DFSP) Jacksonville fuel depot.

The DFSP Jacksonville fuel depot is the Navy's largest deep water fuel terminal in the southeastern United States. Lt. Cmdr. Josh Melchert led the tour, and showed Chase how new technology changed how fuel is received and delivered. The effects of the 2017 hurricanes were still visible, but recovery and lack of disruption of fuel distribution was evident.

At Naval Station (NS) Mayport, Chase met the local area Supply Officers for lunch, remarking on how new technologies are changing how supply officers meet mission requirements. "Even my family remarks on how much we use technology now vice in the past," said Chase.

The day cumulated with Chase visiting NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville sites at NS Mayport including one of the most recent Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) modernization project, the renovation of the warehouse in Bldg. 1554, which boasts a mezzanine to use the vertical space to maximum advantage.

At other work centers, Chase recognized members of the Integrated Logistics Team, and the Logistics Support Team for their outstanding efforts. Before departing NS Mayport, Chase had an office call with Commodore Michael Johnston at the Littoral Combat Ship Squadron Two Headquarters and discussed the challenges and accomplishments of the program.

Chase traveled with Capt. Matt Ott, Commanding Officer NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville and Kevin Mooney, Executive Director, NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville to visit SUPSHIP Gulf Coast in Pascagoula, Miss. where NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville logicians embedded at SUPSHIP, ensure fitting out of new construction ships are meeting and exceeding required levels.

The trip concluded with a tour of NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville's site at Gulfport, Miss. where Chase toured NECC Kitting Operations prior to returning to NAVSUP GLS.
