Cmdr. Michael Cloud relieved Cmdr. Paul Kaylor as commanding officer of USS Nitze (DDG 94) during a change of command ceremony April 14, at Naval Station Norfolk.

Kaylor, who assumed command of the Arleigh Burke-class, guided-missile destroyer in October 2015, is a native of Kennerdell, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Navy in 1986 and fulfilled a series of successful tours ranging from a junior enlisted Sailor, chief petty officer, department head and executive officer.

"Nitze has the finest sailors I have ever served with," reflected Kaylor. "Together, we are Nitze, and each and every one of us is the reason we are able to accomplish everything that we do."

Kaylor will be reporting to Supreme Allied Command, Transformation located here and is looking forward to having the opportunity to spend more time with his wife and their newborn son.

"As I pass the ship on to you, I know Nitze will continue to do great things," said Kaylor to his relief.

Cloud was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico and reported as Nitze executive officer in September 2015. He continues his service as the ship's ninth commanding officer.

Cloud told the audience that he looks forward to serving as commanding officer and how excited he is to work with this amazing crew.

"Without a doubt I know I have been set up for success," said Cloud.

Nitze is part of Destroyer Squadron 26 and is homeported here.
