The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) arrived in Haakonsvern, Norway for a scheduled visit, April 20th, 2017.

This visit serves to enhance U.S.-Norway relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe. The ship's presence in the North Sea is a demonstration of our continued commitment to the collective security of NATO under Operation Atlantic Resolve.

"Port visits such as this are uncommon; however, to be part of a crew that is fortunate enough to experience the rich culture that Norway has to offer is an amazing opportunity. The Sailors will be able to look back on these days and tell their stories, knowing that only a small number of people can say the same. That itself is worth its weight in gold in my opinion. * Strengthening alliances during the port visit to Haakonsvern demonstrates the shared commitment we have to promote safety and stability within the region, while seeking opportunities to enhance our interoperability with allies like Norway.

* The United States continues to demonstrate its commitment to the collective security of our NATO allies and support for our partners in Europe. All DoD efforts in support of our NATO allies in Eastern Europe fall under the umbrella of Atlantic Resolve.

* Leyte Gulf departed its homeport in Norfolk, Virginia, March 27 to conduct maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the 6th Fleet area of operation.

* U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
