Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain employees participated in international Denim Day, April 26. The purpose of Denim Day is to raise awareness for victims of sexual assault.

Denim Day originated from a court ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the victim wore tight jeans. In honor of the victim, people all over the world wear denim to stand together in outrage of the ruling.

"Participating in Denim Day sends a reminder that it's not just the victim who suffers but also the community. It shows support for the ongoing plight that the military has to bring awareness to sexual assault victims. NAVSUP FLC Bahrain's participation makes everyone aware of how important sexual assault prevention is and reminds everyone that if they see something they should say something," said Peggy Haire, supply systems analyst, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is committed to ensuring sexual assault, discrimination and harassment are not tolerated. Wearing jeans for Denim Day is one of many ways NAVSUP FLC Bahrain participates in supporting sexual assault prevention and response. NAVSUP FLC Bahrain employees delivered the message clothing should never be an excuse for sexual assault.

"Bringing awareness to sexual assault is very important to NAVSUP FLC Bahrain. Participating in Denim Day demonstrates the support for any victim that was shamed or blamed for being raped due to their clothing. No matter what a person is wearing, they should not be assaulted. Keeping everyone safe is the ultimate goal and participating in Denim Day reminds us of that," said Makerria Stroud, command uniform victim advocate, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain has more than 180 military and civilian personnel providing logistics support in the region. The command is one of eight FLC's worldwide in the NAVSUP GLS enterprise. NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global navy. The organization is made up of more than 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
