Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded $4.5 million geotechnical engineering services architect-engineer contract April 27 to Del Mar Environmental & Construction Services Inc. of Chula Vista, California.

The award is an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract that provides for an indefinite quantity of architect-engineering services for a fixed time. Contract term is for a one-year base period with four option periods.

"We are very pleased to award this contract for geotechnical engineering services within the NAVFAC Southwest's area of responsibility to Del Mar Environmental & Construction Services Inc.," said Ken Simmons, NAVFAC Southwest contracting officer's representative (COR). "Having highly qualified and experienced companies, like Del Mar Environmental & Construction Services, Inc., are critical to ensure our projects continue to be of the highest quality."

Del Mar Environmental & Construction Services Inc. will provide services for Design-Build (DB) Request for Proposals (RFP) and Design-Bid-Build (DBB) construction contract packages. Design-Bid-Build (DBB) construction contract packages involve producing drawings, specifications, basis of design, design analysis, engineering calculations, and cost estimates.

The company will make reports, studies, technical reviews of Government prepared RFP packages for DB projects, government prepared design documents for DBB projects, and site investigations. These reports, studies and technical reviews support new development of facilities on raw land, or redevelopment of existing facilities on developed sites; and support and coordination of various technical disciplines, such as, architectural, electrical, civil, structural, geotechnical, and environmental.

Del Mar Environmental & Construction Services Inc. services may also include preparation of planning and programming related documents and post construction award services (PCAS).

"The performance, economy, and safety of structures are affected by its foundation," said Simmons. "Information derived from subsurface investigations is applied during design and used throughout construction. As such, geotechnical engineering is an essential component of a successful design for new construction and renovation of existing facilities."

Projects for this contract will primarily occur in the six states that form NAVFAC Southwest's area of responsibility (AOR). They are California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah, but may include additional areas. Most work will occur in California.
