Sailors and civilian members of Naval Submarine Support Center New London (NSSC NLON) came together at Admiral Fife Recreation Area, June 2, to celebrate reaching the milestone of 1,000 consecutive days without an alcohol related incident.

NSSC NLON provides administrative, personnel, legal, religious, operations, supply, communications, personal security, information systems, force protection, weapons handling and medical support to 22 submarines homeported at Naval Submarine Base New London, under construction at General Dynamics Electric Boat Shipyard, and undergoing maintenance availability at local shipyards.

"I feel extremely proud to serve amongst such a high-performing team of professionals," said NSSC NLON Commanding Officer Cmdr. Brian Nowak. "NSSC does amazing work every day, interacting [with] and supporting the Sailors who make up the submarine crews, and our professional decorum demonstrates to those Sailors positive decision making and a high standard of personal accountability."

NSSC NLON's 1,000-day streak of positive decision making has continued for more than 2.7 years. Dividing 365 days by 12 gives an average of 30.4 days per month. By that calculation, the streak has lasted nearly 33 months, or nearly a Sailor's full shore duty tour.

Nowak attributed the command's success to teamwork and communication.

"Reaching this milestone validates a long-standing and robust habit at NSSC, of talking with each other, supporting our shipmates and backing up those around us in making sound decisions," he said.
