The guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) concluded a four-day port visit in Souda Bay, Greece, July 6.

Souda Bay is Truxtun's first liberty port visit of its 2017 deployment with George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG). The port visit allowed the crew to enjoy the culture and sights the island of Crete has to offer.

The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) committee aboard Truxtun arranged several tours in coordination with Naval Support Activity Souda Bay MWR, to include local wine tours and a visit to many of the archaeological sites on the strategic island of Crete.

"I enjoyed the wine tour and the many historic monuments I was able to see along the tour," said Logistics Specialist 3rd Class Samantha Watkins. "I can't wait to get home from deployment so I can share the Greek wine I bought on the tour with my family."

GHWBCSG is comprised of the staff of CSG-2; aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77); the nine squadrons and staff of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8; Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 staff; guided-missile destroyers USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Truxtun (DDG 103); and guided-missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and USS Hue City (CG 66).

Truxtun is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.
