New CO Assumes Command of NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville

Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville held a traditional change of command ceremony July 21.

During the ceremony, Capt. Re Bynum was relieved by Capt. Matt Ott as Commanding Officer, NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville.

The event took place aboard Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, with more than 200 guests in attendance. Navy Band Southeast provided patriotic music throughout the time honored ceremony.

The invocation was delivered by Lt. Kyron Bell, followed by the keynote speaker Rear Adm. James R. McNeal, Commander, NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS).

McNeal thanked Bynum for his many accomplishments during his command.

Bynum's accomplishments include receiving the Blue E Ashore Supply Excellence Award at all eligible Sites, receiving the 2016 Retention Excellence Award, delivering more than 700 million gallons of fuel with no environmental impact, demonstrating 28 noteworthy accomplishments and six best practices noted during the 2016 NAVSUP Inspector General Inspection, and coordinating and delivering more than 1,500 days of reserve operational support throughout the Southeast Region.

McNeal emphasized that Bynum met and exceeded all challenges and concluded by presenting Bynum with the Legion of Merit medal for his exceptional service as NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Commanding Officer.

"We say goodbye to Re, but we also say hello to Matt. Matt is equipped with the right stuff to lead NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville; his leadership abilities and his sterling reputation are impeccable. I have no doubt he's ready for the job," said McNeal.

As NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville's newest commanding officer, Ott will lead more than 900 military, civilian, and contractor personnel providing premier regional logistics support to 17 sites, 49 fleet units, and two industrial activities in seven states throughout the Southeastern United States and the Caribbean.

With an exchange of salutes and handshakes, Ott assumed the reins of command. Ott expressed thanks to Rear Adm. Jon Yuen, Rear Adm. James McNeal and Navy senior leadership for the trust and confidence placed in leading the professional civilian and military providers of team NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville.

Ott comes to NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he previously served as Director of Aviation Operations at NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support.

NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville, one of eight fleet logistics centers under NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS), provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other joint and allied forces. Services include contracting, regional transportation, fuel, material management, household goods movement support, postal and consolidated mail, warehousing, global logistics and husbanding, hazardous material management, and integrated logistics support.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide, providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
