Sailors from Navy Operation Support Center (NOSC) Cheyenne took part in a host of activities during the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days, held July 21-30.

NOSC Cheyenne Sailors marched in thee parades beginning in the shadow of the State Capitol Building and progressing through the historic town along with other military units, veterans groups, and community organizations in front of thousands of well-wishers.

"It was such an honor to be welcomed by everyone along the parade route," Personnel Specialist 1st Class Crystal Herald said. "It was such a humbling experience."

At one of the three free pancake breakfasts organized by the Kiwanis Club, NOSC Commanding Officer Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Tidwell and Chief Yeoman David Cheatham produced many of the pancakes served to approximately 10,000 attendees that day, and they met Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead, who also took a turn at the grill. Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Scott Filgas was even joined on the batter line by Miss Wyoming Teen USA 2017, Autumn Schieferstein.

The pancake breakfasts, which use military cooking ranges, also serve a dual purpose as civil defense drills, providing training and free food to mass amounts of people in case of a disaster.

"This is a great event for us to join in and support our Wyoming community, to inform the public of the importance of the Navy mission and the Sailors that carry out that mission, and for us to enjoy spending time with the community we consider family," said Lt. Cmdr. Tidwell.

Navy personnel also attended a barbecue dinner with the visiting crew of the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN 742), flew with the U.S. Navy Parachute Team - the "Leap Frogs," attended the "Daddy of 'em All" rodeo and a "Challenge Rodeo" focused on special needs children.

Cheyenne Frontier Days takes place the last full week each July and also includes other activities such as fully recreated American Indian village with dancing and art, a carnival, and several musical concerts.
