With only 103 days to go until INSURV (the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey), Rear Adm. Charles Williams, commander, Task Force (CTF) 70 and Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5, visited USS Shiloh (CG 67), Jan. 19, to motivate the crew and lend them his support.

INSURV is a Congressionally-mandated inspection enacted to ensure that ships of the United States Navy are properly equipped for prompt, reliable, and sustained mission readiness at sea.

Rear Adm. Williams also spent time with the Chiefs in the Mess.

"Rear Adm. Williams talked to us about owning the ship - and challenged us to be an owner and not just an operator," said Gas Turbine System Technician (Mechanical) Chief Petty Officer Edward Bill, of Broadus, Montana. "I believe the Admiral is right - for Shiloh to succeed in INSURV, it starts in the Chiefs' Mess."

Shiloh is scheduled to have their INSURV the first week of May. During INSURV, inspectors will visit every compartment, test every piece of equipment, and assess the ship's overall readiness to ensure the ship is ready to fight.

"Not everyone looks forward to INSURV because of the stress and attention to detail required," said Lt. j.g. Ryan Dallas, of Charleston, South Carolina. "but Shiloh has the most determined crew on the waterfront, and I look forward to an affirmation of the crew's effort and a successful INSURV report."

SHILOH is forward-deployed to Japan in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
