Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano spoke at the Command Senior Enlisted Leader Executive Leadership Symposium at the U.S. Fleet Forces Command Jan. 23 in Norfolk.

More than 20 command master chief petty officers (CMDCMs) and senior enlisted leaders (SELs) attended the symposium allowing them train, discuss and combine their knowledge, and experience to improve the readiness and effectiveness of Sailors and fleet operations.

"They get a chance to interact with command master chiefs with all different types of backgrounds; some of them have up to eight years of experience as a CMDCM," said Giordano. "Experience and mentorship like that is priceless. Our goal here is to give some of our first-term command master chiefs knowledge so they can move up the ladder and be successful serving their commanding officer -- whether it's a commander or an admiral."

Giordano spoke on a range of topics including motivation, time management, education and training, and leadership qualities.
Giordano is visiting Norfolk and surrounding areas to engage the fleet.

Fleet engagements provide senior leadership with a frontline assessment of Sailors on the deckplates, allowing their voices to be heard by senior Navy leadership.
