Submarine Learning Center (SLC) announced its Civilian of the Quarter (COQ) for the fourth quarter of 2016.

Jim Flint, the Learning Standards Officer (LSO) at Trident Training Facility (TTF) Bangor, Washington, was recognized for his superior performance while functioning as the Material Support Agency (MSA) for 10 Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS) courses.

Flint performed all normal technical updates and reconfigured the IUSS courses to facilitate training of foreign national students, directly supporting the long-term goals of SLC Learning Site Whidbey Island and Commander Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

"Mr. Flint is another quiet hero whose efforts in support of the fleet are why the SLC consistently delivers world-class training to our Sailors in the world's finest submarine force," said Capt. Andrew Jarrett, SLC commanding officer.

According to the award submission, Flint was responsible for producing six changes and clearing seven course action checklists for Whidbey Island in pursuit of curriculum improvement and accuracy. Additionally, he supported the newly-hired Norfolk Fleet Learning Standards office, providing significant support to the Dam Neck Learning Site to ensure its curriculum was accurate and complete.

"It's good to be recognized," said Flint. "The SLC, across its domain and here at TTF Bangor, has a lot of hard-working, very talented and highly-deserving staff members. I am happy, honored, and humbled by the recognition and very grateful."

The Submarine Learning Center's primary function is to create, coordinate, and execute the future training and education vision for the submarine force.
