For the second consecutive year, Sailors crowded together in the hangar bay of aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike) to watch the Super Bowl on a massive projector screen, Feb. 5.

The ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) team had been preparing far in advance, and worked diligently throughout the day to ensure the crew enjoyed both the game and the traditional football foods of hot dogs, wings, pizza, and nachos.

"We went shopping for some decor to give it a Super Bowl vibe and set up the projector early for a few tailgate games," said Ike's Fun Boss Vicky West. "I'm optimistic that it will go off well and that the seats will be full. We still have five hours until the game starts and the seats are already filling up."

Many of the ship's departments contributed to the event. MWR had to work closely with air department to ensure their efforts in the hangar bay did not interfere with mission-essential movements or maintenance. Combat systems' interior communications electricians (IC) set up the projectors borrowed from training.

"We worked with a lot of departments to paint this big picture," said Air Traffic Controlman 2nd Class Michael Lopez, who helped supervise setup. "Without everyone's help and cooperation, we couldn't have gotten everything together so fast in a location where so much is happening."

One of the biggest contributions to the event was from supply department's food service division (S-2). In an effort to ensure dinner was set up in the hangar bay, the mess decks were secured early and all culinary specialists and food service attendants worked together to provide the best quality of food for the crew in that setting. Decorated tables were set up near the projector and a seating area for Sailors to indulge in all their favorite football foods from home.

"I don't really have a team, but I hope everyone had a good time tonight and enjoyed their time underway watching the Super Bowl together," Ike's Food Service Officer, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Aleithia Castro said.
