09 February 2017
Commander, Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) announced the winners of the 2016 Training Excellence Awards (TEA) Feb. 9, honoring superior accomplishment in supporting NETC's mission.
Commander, Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) announced the winners of the 2016 Training Excellence Awards (TEA) Feb. 9, honoring superior accomplishment in supporting NETC's mission.

These annual awards recognize training commands which demonstrate the highest standards of excellence in meeting established requirements for training.

"Every year we re-evaluate our metrics and raise our standards, and every year the team continues to meet and deliver high-quality training to the fleet," said Rear Adm. Mike White, NETC commander. "The recipients of TEA symbolize the high-quality and dedicated staff and instructors we have throughout the NETC domain."

The highest TEA awards for 2016, the NETC Training Excellence (White "T") is awarded to the Center for Information Warfare Training in Pensacola, Florida, and the NETC 2016 Training Support Excellence (White "TS") is awarded to Training Support Center San Diego. Both commands are authorized to display the blue burgee throughout the 2017 calendar year to indicate their outstanding accomplishments and excellence in delivery of education and training.

At the end of the year, each NETC training headquarters directorate assesses learning centers and training support centers based on functional areas including: Business Administration and Support; Planning and Programming; Total Force Management; Logistics Management; Information Technology Management; Curriculum Management; Training Production Management; Training Support Management; and Financial Management.

"The metrics used in TEA deal with every aspect of a training center's mission, and the criteria has been adjusted as training evolves," said Dorothy Berry, NETC's TEA board coordinator. "The TEA serves as a measurable way for commands to assess their overall effectiveness, and ultimately their quality output to the fleet."

In addition to competing for the overall "T" and "TS" awards, each learning center and training support center has an opportunity to receive functional awards in the nine functional areas. A TEA certificate is presented to commands scoring 90 percent in the functional area.
