Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Auto Skills Center hosts Ladies' Day every third Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in building U-126, onboard Naval Station (NAVSTA) Norfolk.

Ladies' Day offers active-duty, dependents, Reservists, retirees, and Department of Defense females half-price bay rentals and maintenance services, as well as free food and beverages.

Tim Daubert, Auto Skills manager, explained why it is so important to have a day dedicated to women.

"We're trying to get the female population working on their own cars so that they feel more comfortable if they break down on the road," said Daubert. "It provides them with knowledge on how to change a tire, change their oil, or perform basic maintenance on their vehicle."

Darryl Barrington, Auto Skills representative and service member, provided more insight on Ladies' Day.

"My job is to assist by providing participants with information and advice," said Barrington. "It is important to have them work on their own vehicle so they can learn how their cars operate. We put safety first. I supervise the bay to make sure everyone is following all the Auto Skills bay regulations, such as hearing loss prevention, using the right tool and equipment for the right job, and wearing proper personnel protective equipment."

With a wide range of tools including wrenches, sockets, and spin balancers, there are many tools available to help assist customers working on their vehicle. The Auto Skills Center has two flat bays, three finger lifts, and one drive-on which is solely designated for oil changes.

"It's a great facility with available lifts and all the right tools you'll need," said Airman Darren-Matthew Dedios. "The staff is friendly and willing to provide assistance when needed."
