USS Hue City Completes Port Visit in Tallinn, Estonia

Guided-missile cruiser USS Hue City (CG 66) completed a scheduled port visit in Tallinn, Estonia, Feb. 22, to enhance U.S.-Estonia relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Baltic region and Europe.
Guided-missile cruiser USS Hue City (CG 66) completed a scheduled port visit in Tallinn, Estonia, Feb. 22, to enhance U.S.-Estonia relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Baltic region and Europe.

During the visit, Hue City crew had the opportunity to engage with members of the Estonian navy and public through hosting 13 ship tours.

While in Estonia, Hue City hosted a dinner reception for distinguished visitors from the Estonian navy, embassy, and ministry of defense.

Hue City Sailors also participated in a community relations event at a local community center, during which they visited with students and learned about Estonian culture.

"Our port visit in Estonia strengthened our relations with an important NATO ally." said Capt. Dan Gillen, Hue City's commanding officer. "Events like the reception and the community relations project help to establish a working relationship with the Estonian military, as well as the local community."

The U.S. Navy maintains a presence in the 6th Fleet area of operations to help preserve peace and security and to further partnerships with friends and allies. This forward presence contributes to freedom of navigation and lawful use of the sea, furthers operational training, and enables an exchange of culture, skills and tactical knowledge.

Following the scheduled port visit, Hue City will continue to conduct maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility as part of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG).

GHWBCSG is comprised of the staff of CSG-2; aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77); the nine squadrons and staff of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8; Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 staff; guided-missile destroyers USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Truxtun (DDG 103); Danish guided-missile frigate HDMS Peter Willemoes (F 362); and Mayport-based guided-missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and USS Hue City (CG 66).
