Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) received the 2016 Regional Maintenance Center (RMC) Excellence Award in San Diego March 15.

SWRMC won the award for the second year in a row as a result of their outstanding achievements in ship maintenance, modernization, and maintenance management.

Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC) Rear Adm. James Downey, SWRMC's Immediate Superior in Command (ISIC), praised SWRMC's exceptional service to the Fleet.

"We selected SWRMC for the 2016 RMC Excellence Award because SWRMC consistently provided ships assigned to San Diego, as well as visiting and deployed ships, with outstanding repair, maintenance and modernization through numerous availabilities, fleet technical assistance, and emergent repairs," said Downey. "The team's dedication, professionalism and attention to detail are inspirational and continue to set the standard. I extend my personal congratulations and a sincere 'thank you' to the entire SWRMC team on a job 'WELL DONE' - Bravo Zulu!"

Each of the RMCs submitted highly competitive award packages that highlighted their many achievements, but it was SWRMC's unique submission that set them apart by effectively capturing their mission accomplishments, innovative and effective use of maintenance resources, and quality of life programs that, when viewed in its entirety, underscored their consistent success in meeting the command's mission of providing superior ship maintenance, modernization, technical support and training to the Pacific Fleet.

Surface ship repair, maintenance and modernization are critical to meeting fleet operational readiness ship and service life objectives. The RMC Excellence Award recognizes sustained superior performance and achievements that exceed standards for intermediate level and depot level maintenance activities.

SWRMC's winning award package will be submitted as a candidate for the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Maintenance Award.
