The security assistant for the Naval Education and Training Professional Development Center (NETPDC) was honored as the Civilian of the Quarter (COQ) for the first quarter of 2017 during an all-hands ceremony, March 16.

Ed Hattabaugh, a five-year civil service veteran and retired senior chief, received the award for his outstanding performance as the command's security assistant, while simultaneously assisting in the administrative division during the gapped billet of the admin officer.

Hattabaugh said he appreciated the COQ recognition, but being able to assist where he was needed comes naturally.

"I have never sought out recognition, but appreciate the command taking the time to acknowledge my efforts," said Hattabaugh. "Mission accomplishment has always been my number one goal, and helping out where needed is a part of that process."

At the award ceremony, NETPDC Commanding Officer Capt. Lee Newton said he is constantly reminded of how much talent and dedication the civilian professionals on the NETPDC headquarters staff bring to the Navy.

"Mr. Hattabaugh is a direct example of our civilian personnel going the extra mile to ensure the job gets done," said Newton. "He was able to successfully split his time between two divisions during a temporary manning shortage, ensuring mission accomplishment in both areas. His efforts were nothing short of superb."

Keith Washington, the command business operations department head for NETPDC, said that Hattabaugh's work in the security and administrative divisions was critical and did not go unnoticed.

"Ed successfully synchronized a wide variety of admin officer functions while managing a high volume of security clearances, investigations and projects," said Washington. "His development of a detailed tracking matrix will be used to monitor security and background investigations for years to come. His teamwork and attitude are an outstanding asset to our department."

NETPDC, located onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola's Saufley Field, provides products and services that enable and enhance education, training, career development and personnel advancement throughout the Navy. Primary elements of the command include the voluntary education department, the Navy Advancement Center, and the resources management department.
