The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Command Merit Award was presented to the commander of Navy Installations Command to honor their achievements for a successful 2016 fundraiser drive March 28.

Vice Adm. Dixon Smith, Commander, Navy Installations Command, accepted the award on behalf of the shore enterprise team during an all hands call with his employees.

"The individual charities and groups that make up the CFC could not accomplish everything they do without your continued support," said Smith during the event. "This is a team award and a reflection on your contributions to this great cause."

The employees of Navy Installations Command met their contact goal of 100 percent early in the season with the help of more than 20 employees taking active roles with the command's CFC committee. Their hard work paid off with the command reaching 122 percent of their assigned donation target by raising more than $56,000.

"No individual could attain our goals or our objective by themselves," said Bill Grant, one of the command's CFC coordinators. "Without [the command team], we could not have been successful."

The CFC collects pledges and donations during the campaign season, which runs from September 1 through December 15, annually. Donations can be made to any number of the more than 4,000 charities. The CFC is the world's largest charity campaign and raises millions each year for non-profit organizations.

"There are a lot of well-deserving organizations out there that need support," Grant said. "I think we have an obligation to do a little bit more to help and by contributing to CFC, we can do that."

The Navy Installations Command CFC team held seven different fundraisers including a charity fair and an ugly sweater contest during the holiday season along with collecting donations.

Navy Installations Command is comprised of approximately 53,000 military and civilian personnel worldwide responsible for the operations, maintenance and quality-of-life programs to support the Navy's fleet, Sailors and their families.
